Job description

The Compliance Officer will support the Head of UK Regulatory Compliance and overall Compliance team to deliver the Snap-on Compliance Monitoring Plan.

The Compliance Officer will perform a key role in the delivery and development of the compliance assurance activities at Snap-on, as well as monitoring and reviewing upcoming changes in the regulatory environment to ensure Snap-on business activities remain compliant.

They will assist the Head of UK Regulatory Compliance with the writing policies and procedures and the delivery of key information to management and employees. Complete special projects as assigned by the Compliance Manager. Gather data and compile reports for management and the compliance department.

These are the main duties of the Compliance Officer, but it is the nature of the job that each activity will have its own range of demands.

Compliance Oversight:

  • Ensuring up to date knowledge with all key regulatory developments (FCA, Data Protection, Financial Crime) and providing monthly, or as required, Horizon Scans to the relevant business units.
  • Ensuring that they remain engaged with self learning opportunities to keep themselves up to date with the regulatory environment.
  • Ensure that the firm can respond in a timely basis to requests for information from the FCA or other regulatory bodies.
  • Assist with the planning and timely delivery of the Snap-on compliance assurance activities.
  • Assist with the production and monitoring of the Snap-on compliance plans.
  • Annual review of policies and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance against regulatory obligations.
  • Assist in construction and delivery of compliance regulatory training programme, including appropriate introductory training for new employees as well as ongoing training for all employees and managers.
  • Provide suggestions to all SMF’s for appropriate training / knowledge growth activities based on the current environment and focuses within the industry.
  • Ensure that all SMF training / knowledge growth activities are recorded in an evidence log on an annual basis.
  • Advise key stakeholders including the Head of UK Regulatory Compliance on key regulatory matters impacting the business and the department, including recommendations for any activities required.

Data protection

  • Help to ensure any subject access requests or data protection rights enquiries are managed in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Assist with development of effective compliance training programs, including appropriate introductory training for new employees as well as ongoing training for all employees and managers.

Operational duties

  • Develop and maintain a strong operational knowledge of all business units within the UK including the franchise model and operation.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, all appropriate regulatory bodies and other relevant third parties (e.g. external advisors) as required.
  • Maintenance of documented and effective compliance procedures consistent with business goals and risk appetite.
  • Monitor the performance of the compliance program and take appropriate steps to improve its ongoing effectiveness.
  • Maintain the compliance project plans and ensure that agreed deadlines are being met.
  • Understand and exhibit the Snap-on mission statement of shared beliefs, values, and vision
  • The ideal candidate will be degree educated or equivalent education, ideally with a with a minimum 5-years relevant experience within a financial services compliance environment or working within an assurance / audit role in a Consumer Credit environment.

They will have demonstrable experience in risk, compliance, and governance monitoring in a regulated financial services environment, ideally within a UK Consumer Credit business. They will posess excellent interpersonal, and communications skills coupled with strong written and verbal communication skills. They will have excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines and crucially they will have the ability to problem solve and think analytically.
