Job Function

Working closely with Sales and Production, the Buyer will utilise their in-depth experience to ensure that the product range supports the company’s overall strategy and goals. By gathering and prioritising product and customer/sales requirements, you will source and price suitable products, plan and communicate changes in product lines and identify gaps in the market that can be filled. You will also research, together with Sales, what customers will need and negotiate with suppliers to purchase the products to fill gaps in the Snap-on Industrial assortment, so that we can offer our customer base a complete assortment for their needs. From time-to-time you will also be responsible for sourcing parts or materials which are then used to fabricate or combine Items (Specials) which we sell on to customers. As Buyer, your role must ensure gross margin guidelines are followed and customer satisfaction is met alongside managing product maintenance throughout the product lifecycle.

Personal Accountabilities

  • Researching new products and be interested in manufacturing processes.
  • Identifying quality standards and ensuring that all products meet those standards.
  • Negotiating with suppliers to agree prices, quantities, delivery schedules and exclusivity deals.
  • Working with inventory management team to ensure that all deliveries satisfy the assigned purchase orders and report any back-ordered or missing products
  • Delivering reports on sales data, inventory statistics and other metrics to the senior management team and other stakeholders.
  • Conducting competitor research.
  • Adapting product offering based on customer feedback and behaviour.
  • Work independently and within a team to maintain new and existing products to specified value/margin levels showing commercial awareness at all times
  • Work with US Industrial Item Master formalising local purchase requests, item setup, maintain product life cycle, pricing, sales analysis, Inventory Issues
  • Assist sales with price matrixes in conjunction with Industrial Price Maintenance
  • Maintaining BOM, ensuring changes are followed through all steps of the process (Design, Inventory, Production)
  • Assisting with the continued inventory maintenance, where required.

  • Relationship building and networking skills.
  • Financial and accounting knowledge for calculating margins, gross profit and discounts.
  • Knowledge of fabrication and manufacturing techniques (advantageous).
  • An understanding of supply chain management and logistics.
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of spreadsheets, presentation software and other stock management software and systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail and high standards for quality control
  • Ability to multi-task & juggle between projects in a very busy environment
